An app for amateur sports teams: scores, rankings, attendance and fines. My two co-founders handle the non-technical side; I do the rest. App, backend, deployment and monitoring. Now in beta with 500+ users.
I'm Niels, a software developer. By day I work as a full-stack developer, with a preference for the backend. I also take on freelance work, and in my spare time I build Pingel, an app for amateur sports teams.
I studied Computing Science with a master's in cybersecurity, and that's still where my interest lies. I use AI a lot in my own projects, partly to find out what it can and can't do.
I like talking to people, and I prefer getting to the point.
What I'm working on
Application platform
For a client, I'm rewriting a set of Meteor applications in Nuxt 4, and I built a platform around them that makes new applications quick to start. It's modular so AI agents can work with it well, with fixed scripts for everything that needs to stay predictable. I designed and built the single sign-on for all the apps myself. Plus MongoDB, a private image registry and CI with GitHub Actions.
Ticket bot
A bot for buying tickets to a large Dutch event, not for profit. The vendor kept changing things during the sale, so I adapted the bot as it ran and spread it across several machines. Python and Selenium.
Background
- Co-founder, Pingel Sportapp
- Freelance developer
- Full-stack developer A small team, so I wear a lot of hats. The product, an outdated web application, is nearly rewritten in a new stack, moving from a separate instance per client on our own servers to AWS with multi-tenancy. Also migrations, client contact and being the contact for third-party integrations. All under the role of product owner.
- MSc Computing Science, cybersecurity, Radboud University Also part-time developer and an internship at a network security company
- BSc Computing Science, Radboud University Also behind the bar and building my own projects
Outside work
Sports (football, for one), video games and pingelen. I also read and listen to a lot about security: books, news, podcasts and YouTube.
